You Can Be A Summer Santa

MISSION POSSIBLE You Can be a Summer Santa By Carol Dawson Everyone loves Santa Claus, except a few screaming and writhing toddlers and infants. Santa Claus goes by many names such as St. Nicholas, Sinter Klass, Christkind, Kris Kringle, Pere Noel, Father Christmas, and Babouschka. No matter the name, this jolly and generous fella?? is always bringing gifts to children who have been good. The Center for Lay Ministries (CLM) clearly has been good and has accomplished positive things in our Clark County community and because of this good behavior, Santa Claus has come to visit us early?a Summer Christmas, if you will. Our generous Santa prefers to remain anonymous and has offered to match financial donations to our nonprofit as a Summer Christmas opportunity! Up to $5,000 in monetary donations will be contributed to CLM through the months of July and August by our Santa if the donation is matched. If you give $100, our special Santa will give CLM $100. This means each person (or church) who donate during these months would then hold the distinguished title of Summer Santa. CLM has some of our busiest months during the warmer months. Specifically, there are children who are not getting the food they need because the school food programs, such as the National School Lunch or School Breakfast program, are not available to them. While several of our local schools offer summer meal programs, they are not offered at every school, every day. The Summer Santa effort will help CLM provide much needed nourishment to children and their families who are going through difficult times. In addition to the food pantry, CLM runs the Bliss House program for women in recovery. The women at Bliss House need the structured support this program provides as they reclaim their lives from drugs and/or alcohol addiction. The Bliss House program is a 12-step approach to recovery and is open to women in several Southern Indiana counties, including Clark County. Bliss House is the only halfway house in Southern Indiana with a program dedicated to women in recovery. As seen nearly every night on the Kentuckiana news, there is a significant need in our community to help heal women who are addicted to various dangerous drugs, like heroin. Your Summer Christmas donation may help to give a mother, daughter, sister, niece, or granddaughter the gift of a new life. Please think about being a Summer Santa for the CLM. Also, consider asking a local business, organization, or your faith congregation if they will organize a CLM donation effort in July or August. Our anonymous Santa is ready and waiting to double whatever amount CLM receives! Thanks in advance for your continued support. CLM is located at 213 E. Maple St., Jeffersonville, IN 47130. You can contact CLM by calling 812-282-0063 (and specifically asking for either Greg Henderzahs or Dana Busby) or by visiting the website at: Carol Dawson, the volunteer Communications Coordinator for CLM, is a community columnist for the News and Tribune and President of EEO GUIDANCE, Inc.
